These XLA bikes were different from the civilian bikes. They  came from Harley-Davidson with electric starts, large gas tanks (Turtle Tank) that had smooth sides and did not have the side brackets for the Harley-Davidson emblem. They came with a rear fender rack, hard saddle bags, covered shock absorbers and a windshield (available as an option on civilian models)  They also had a wider set of handlebars (never offered on a civilian bike and a Solo seat only available on civilian model through 1970.  Harley-Davidson used the Solo seat on all the XLA's.
